LOWER MANHATTAN CULTURAL COUNCIL
Swing Space Program
Governors Island, Building 110
May - July 2011
I recorded a group of solo tenor saxophone pieces in various locations on Governors Island. I compiled them into a CD and then I made this installation and performance as a visual track to accompany the audio. The CD played through the headphones in Brass' ears, and I provided additional headphones for visitors. Brass stayed in this position in the chair for approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. At the mid-point Brass woke up and cut pineapples for visitors and then played the saxophone for thirty minutes. After finishing, Brass returned to this reclined position. The event took place during the LMCC Open Studio Weekend on July 16, 2011. Six-to-eight hundred visitors came through the studios that day.
